Meme of the moment

Rosaria (lakeviewer) from sixtyfivewhatnow tagged me for this "Meme of the Moment."

I had to play.

1. What is your current obsession?
Blogging. And now that I'm busy 12 hours a day with work, I'm in withdrawal.

2. Which item of clothing do you wear often?

Lately it's all about rain gear, wellies and baseball hats (I'm shooting in the outdoors, and the weather's been crappy all week). I love to dress up when I go out occasionally (have been quite house-bound recently), and that's when old vintage dresses, boots, czarina overcoats and crazy striped Wizard of Oz-type stockings come into play.

3. What's for dinner?

I got home early today and was lucky enough to spend some time with E., and make dinner. The menu featured pasta with sautéed turnip tops (recipe from Puglia, shall post it soon) and a slice of chocolate cake my mom dropped off this afternoon while the house was empty. She's like a little mouse that instead of stealing food, leaves goodies behind.

4. What are you listening to?

The sound of my son's snoring. In my first post, I write about this favorite background music.

5. Say something to the one that tagged you.

Rosaria, I'm happy you tagged me for this game. You were my first blog contact, later my friend; and since then you have introduced me to many wonderful others. I applaud your dedication to teaching on all levels, your caring nature, and the romantic side of your storybook life. There are a few years between us, but the gap is non-existent. Thank you so much for all you give us with your blog.

6. Favorite vacation spots? (I've made this plural, couldn't decide one over the other)

Venice for its intrigue, art, architecture, sensuality and food.
Positano for its sea, landscape, seafood and related memories.

7. What I'm reading right now

"The Sound of Waves," by Yukio Mishima

8. Four words to describe myself.

Dreamer, stubborn, compassionate, epicurean.

9. Guilty pleasure.

I have fantasies of spending a week in a spa in Bali. Alone.

10. First Spring thing?

Picking (and then feasting on) local wild strawberries in the misty countryside that borders Lake Nemi, near Rome.

11. What do you look forward to?

I have written a cookbook, actually more of a guidebook of Italian food and lifestyle. My wish is to see in print. Some day...

Now it's my turn to tag 8 others to do the same, respond to the questions, rework those you need to rework, replace, add, and tag 8 worthy others.

Thanks again, Rosaria, for this play op.

  1. Well done, Lola. I hope you are getting your eight hours of sleep these days.

    Thanks for the kind words.

  2. It's always good to see more of you. Your vintage dressing reminds me of when I was younger and smarter in look. Now I'm just...comfy.

That cake...is that THE cake she dropped off? ummm, spittle forming.

  3. thanks, Lola. Very nice. Positano looks beautiful. Hope your work is going well :)

  4. nice play. always great to get to know fellow bloggers through these. nice pic. happen to enjoy similar background music of my 2 boys.

  5. Hi Lola,
It is so nice to see you even though you are supposed to be otherwise engaged!
    Like sleeping...

Tessa tagged me for this meme also and have said I will do it at some time...when I have time!!!

I am usually not that fussed with them but you and Tessa have done great jobs with them and made them very colourful paintings of your life and interests. I will add it to my "to do" list...

Have a good rest, oh and did I tell you the eggplant pasta was excellent...something about chopping the garlic rather than my usual pressing added to the collection of flavours...a great hit...
    Happy Days

  6. I'm a big fan of Rosaria's. And of your work too.

  7. Darling Lola,

#11: I wish I were in publishing, I would make your book happen. I am so looking forward to it, I can't wait for my autographed copy.

#9: I asked my son who just returned from Bali, if he could recommend a spa. He looked at me like I'd lost my mind! Boys, do not know what their missing! I want to go with you!

    rest well Mama,
    ♥ lori

  8. Vintage dresses is a wonderfully unique detail - please keep that! Very cool!

  9. I look for the wizard of Oz stockings at Positano. It'll be easier to pick you out!

  10. Oh, that was a wonderful little glimpse into another side the Lola we've come to know and love!

  11. The cake: YUM! The berries: my mouth waters. The post: delightful!

  12. I wish I had a mouse like yours that would leave me a delicious looking cake like that.

  13. Rosaria - Ti voglio bene.

Erin - No, not THE cake. Mom's was a little less glamorous and picture perfect. Yet just as droolworthy.

Margo - Work's good, tiring and often baptized by rain, but good. Fun and stimulating so far.

Brian - Kids snoring is better than Bach.

Delwyn - Oh that's great news! Please always report back on tried recipes, it helps me greatly to tweak them, add your ideas, etc.

David - I'm blushing... Rosaria rocks.

Lori - LOL, I can just picture the face on your son, ha ha! Let's go, I've packed the sarong and the flip flops.

CMichael - Thanks, I love my frocks.

Scintilla - And I'll follow my nose to your garden!

Tessa - You started this fun game! So thank you too.

Immersion - Thank you!! I leave some for you to nibble on, OK?

Food Hunter - I am blessed to have her.

  14. Lola, this was beautiful, Bella, and your mom sounds a treat! Is there any of that chocolate cake left, dahlink?! I'd like to inhale some seeing as I am on a diet now!

And, I loved this Meme of yours, so thank you so much for tagging me with it - I shall try to do it justice - But yours, with the background of your lovely son's snoring and the smell of the sea and cake, was just adorable! x

  15. Hi Lola, loved your Skywatch Friday photograph. Just beautiful. I hope your work is going well this week.

Thanks for tagging me, and I'll do the meme next week.

Did I tell you I made your homemade pasta? Lovely.

  16. Grazie for your tag Lola. Although I am known by my readers as one who never does any meme. I did it only once in all my blogging career (which is not that long.)

  17. Fhina - So glad you enjoyed, tesoro (treasure). There's loads of cake left, please take some home with you, as I am now officially oozing out of my jeans.

Sallymandy - You have no idea how good it feels when friends report back with tried recipes. Work's good. Have a good weekend, bella.

Giorgio - Aw, c'mon! ...Ok, ok you're busy. I tagged you beacuse I want to know more about you. But you can write me a letter. Or take me up on that trattoria suggestion. Ciao, prof

  18. Lolo is the cookbook full of pictures. I want to buy one.

    Love Renee xoxo

  19. What beautiful food photos! The berry photo is making my mouth water! I can't identify all the fruits in your one photo, however. (I see blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries but don't know the rest? I once had a wonderful Tuscan mixed fruit jam with mirtelli but can't figure out the American equivalent - don't think it was blueberries.

  20. Renee - I hope it'll get published one day... And on that day you'll get a copy in the mail.

Homebody - Thank you! Mirtilli are indeed blueberries. There's redcurrant, and whitecurrant; the flowery ones are a local berry whose name I forget.

    Thank you for stopping by!
